PHOTON 750W Mid-Drive Conversion Kit

The PHOTONis a compact and lightweightmid-drive electric bike conversion kit made to create a smooth pedal assist feeling that feels natural and seemless. Rated at 750W & 110N.m. Compatible with 36V to 52V battery packs.

The package includes everything you need to convert your bike except the battery:

  1. Motor body with Gen 3 torque sensing freewheel module
  2. Chainring with chainring cover
  3. Bottom bracket assembly
  4. Crank set
  5. Peripherals including
    1. Display
    2. Waterproof wiring
    3. Throttle
    4. Speed sensor
    5. Brake sensors (optional)
  6. User manual (ecopy)

New CYC motors are equipped with the Gen 3 torque sensing technology exclusively developed in-house by our team of engineers and riders. Together they achieved a pedal assist experience for conversion kits like you’ve never seen before!

NATURAL, SMOOTH RIDING

Equipped with our patent pending torque sensor module, we can give you a refined pedal assist system. The torque sensor module includes both a high sensitivity torque sensor strain gauge module and a cadence sensing module. The high number of poles of the cadence sensor ensures that we can control the sensitivity to a much higher degree & provides the opportunity to fine-tune the firmware alongside rider inputs. The result? Unprecedented ebiking!

TESTED BY PROFESSIONALS

Not only have we written our firmware alongside our team riders, we’ve made sure that that all our MVPs got a chance to test it! This includes our partners at Ristretto Electric, Coast Cycles, Fasterbikes EU to name a few. We also showcased the beta version at the 2022 EUROBIKE show where the feedback was phenomenal!

Just finished my build: Rockhopper Elite (2021-22) and CYC Photon. Assembly was a breeze. Only caveat is that the bike is 11 speed. Instructions said to add spacers on the non-drive side so that BB fits nicely with width of motor mount. Ended up moving one of the spacers to the right side, in effect moving the motor 3mm to the right. Before doing this, could get into the smallest gear without being picked up by the second gear. Chainline is now perfect. I have another bike with a TSDZ2. I’d say the Photon is a tad louder and of higher pitch. The TSDZ2 is more Ford Ranger, meaning seems to have more oomph at lower speeds but once getting into the 15-20mph the Photon takes over. Photon is little more nervy. Can’t beat the size, almost invisible. One last note, I ordered it with the 34T chainring. Overkill considering I have a 51t cassette. Can go up a wall but won’t since I’m not 20 anymore. I’d stick with the larger chainring if you have plenty in the back. Ride mainly fireroads and single track in Socal. Super happy!

I love this kit, easy install and I had great support from Golden Motors.
Installed it on my Ice Trice Q26, had to solve a couple of issues for this unconventional setup…but the result is well worth it.
A ton of fun to ride !

Installed on a GT Avalanche 2023 . Very easy install with only 2 hiccups 1. Motor shipped missing some parts which were quickly shipped by Golden 2. As I finished install I went to connect the battery only to find there were different connectors on the battery. Golden did reply that the XT90 connector on the motor was to be cutoff and the 2 small connectors shipped in with the battery keys were to be spliced onto the motor wire. It would be nice if there were instructions that this had to be done I lost 2 days with frustration waiting. Now that install is complete. I am impressed with the performance and look of the system It lives up to the hype and offers plenty of enjoyable rides and fun.

I installed a stock CYC Photon 750watt on my Motobecane X2 gravel bike. I researched the measurements, so It fits, and I’m impressed.
I’m using a 52 volt battery with 17.5 amp hours, 50 tooth chainring, and wow, it goes like the Tour de France legend Greg Lemond. It’s very powerful and super silent.
My speeds are 20 mph – 25 mph ( 30 – 40 kmph, and I can go faster if I actually want to exert myself.
I’m so impressed that I ordered another motor and battery for my Vintage Vitus aluminum ( aluminium ) lugged road bike frame so my daughter can accompany me on rides.
I waited for the right ebike system to become available and the CYC Photon is it. It’s perfect.

Very happy with this first time build. I wanted to keep things light. Bought and used an older 2009 Giant Trance with 26 inch wheels that was in pretty good shape. For safety reasons with not knowing the maintenance history of the bike, I purchased rebuild kits and fluids and rebuilt the front fork and rear shock. I also replaced rotors, updated pads and re-bled brakes. Great having You tube videos to help with the steps.
I went with the CYC Photon for its weight and low sound output. Also went with CYC B-Series battery due to this bike’s medium frame size limits. So far, the battery is doing a great job with holding charges and power output for my riding style. The Photon motor and kit has been outstanding so far. No issues shifting gears with 10 speed Shimano XT Deore. It’s capable of good speeds and I could get even more out of it if I change to a larger front chainring. I currently have the 38t.
I originally built this for my wife in mind so she could keep up on vacation bike rides as we travel with our camper. I like it so much that I think I will eventually build one for myself with larger wheels 27.5 or 29 and larger frame.

I love this little motor! My friend installed it on my GT Street Performer 8 spd with the 42T ring and a 52V 28.8 ah battery. Its kicks ass. I do feel like I need the 50T ring now, though. More speed please? I’m doing my next build on a MTB and I’m doing this one myself. The bigger badder battery is the way to go. It is a little heavy, but I ride with full Throttle for close to 70 Miles. If I pedal it i get more distance. This motor runs more efficiently than the Bafang. My friends all have Bafang and their batteries always die before mine doing the same speeds.

Installed the Photon on my 2014 Rocky Mountain Vapor (27.5″) mountain bike. The chainline worked out great- I had to experiment a bit with the spacers to get the bottom bracket just right. Using the 38T chainring, with the stock 11-34T (9-speed) cassette. This combo seems pretty ideal for my riding (mix of road and trail). Have put on ~700km so far. It is working great for my uses.
I wanted the torque sensor control so that the ride is pretty natural feeling, but boosted, especially on the uphills. So far I am using the stock settings, and mostly on Level 1 on the trails, except for steeper hills where I use Level 2. It has let me do longer rides that I had stopped doing in the last decade. I paired it with a 48V/13Ah battery pack, which has more than enough lifetime for my riding. Using the magnetic brake sensors with the hydraulic brakes- a bit fiddly to get reliable (needed to use VHB tape and Gorilla tape on the sensors to hold them close to the magnets).
Overall very pleased, as it has accomplished pretty much exactly what i was looking for and made a very capable e-mountain bike.

The CYC Photon motor exceeded my expectations! Since I am middle age but still in good shape, the extra power makes me able to ride to work each day and back in a TIMELY manner. The torque sensing and all the settings makes it where I am able to get a very good workout even with the motor!
The motor is pretty quiet, and I do not even notice it running.

I would recommend this motor to anyone that needs a little extra power for there commutes.

Plus, I can’t wait to take it on the trails here soon too!

Always amazing to work with! They have what you need and know how to lean you in the right direction. I told them what I was building and what my concerns were. They helped me pick out the CYC 750 for my custom build.
    Thank you again!
