When Should I Go To The Emergency Room?
Orthopedic injuries that are more severe in nature may require a visit to the ER. If any of the following describes your injury, we recommend visiting the Emergency Room:
- If the patient is a child under 3 years of age
- Fell from 10 feet or greater
- Head, neck or back pain resulting from a fall (less than 5 days ago)
- Head, neck or back pain resulting from a motor vehicle accident (less than 5 days ago)
- Open fractures where there is a visible bone protrusion or open wound over a fracture
- Motor vehicle accidents
- Large cuts and/or deep lacerations
- Burns
- Chest, abdominal or rib pain
- Shortness of breath or lightheadedness

If the condition is life-threatening, go to the ER. If the condition is a mild or moderate injury, take advantage of the DMOS Urgent Injury Clinic. Our orthopedic walk-in clinic is convenient, affordable, and accepts most insurance policies (we recommend confirming with your insurance carrier).
Walk-in urgent injury clinics are specialized to promptly treat unexpected orthopedic injuries. When you have a cold, fever, or other illness, you call on your regular urgent care clinic. But for orthopedic events, such as a sports injury, fracture, or sprain, the DMOS Urgent Injury Clinic provides walk-in access to musculoskeletal care.
There are many different treatments our team of orthopedic specialists can use to help you get back to living. Treatment options that are provided include steroid injections, x-rays, medication, splints, casts, consultations, physical therapy and/or surgery.
If deemed appropriate by your provider, a variety of joint and soft tissue injections can be performed. Cortisone shots are injections that can help relieve pain and inflammation and can be prescribed and administered at our orthopedic walk-in clinics.
Care at our orthopedic walk-in clinics is much more affordable than visiting the ER. With many insurance carriers, your visit will only be the cost of your co-pay. Typically, co-pays are much lower at orthopedic urgent care clinics than they are at the emergency room.
