As July rolls into August, the commitments just keep on coming.
We’ll close out the month by taking a look at three prospects heading to New England D3’s and one heading to Maine’s only Division 1 university.
Manny Ibidapo
HEIGHT 6'6"
POS PF
CLASS 2024
State: New England
School: Shea
Ibidapo put an end to his recruitment with a commitment to Rhode Island College. An athletic center that dominates on the glass, Ibidapo was a man amongst boys this year in the RIIL. He plays with a terrific motor, has great instincts as a shot blocker, and uses his athleticism to his advantage on the boards. He has great positional size, long arms, and the mobility to defend in the paint or on the perimeter. He does most of his scoring around the basket, where he’s a lob threat and physical finisher from the dunker spot. He instantly profiles as one of the better athletes in the Little East and has the tools to develop into an all-defensive type of player for RIC.
Highlights
Julien Ville
HEIGHT 6'0"
POS CG
CLASS 2024
Julien Ville
School: Putnam Science Academy
Ville came off the board when he announced that he’ll attend Elms College. A competitive and gritty combo guard, Ville flashed some impressive skill this winter at Putnam Science Academy. A quality shooter from behind the arc, he’s capable of making plays off the bounce for others and has impressive floor vision. His passing instincts are strong, as is his footwork, which allows him to get his shot off in any situation. He competes on the defensive end of the floor, sticks his nose in to battle for loose balls, and has quick hands on the ball. He should step into a big role right away at Elms and could develop into a top lead guard in the NAC.
Raphel Laurent
HEIGHT 6'1"
POS SG
CLASS 2024
Raphel Laurent
School: Peabody
Laurent finalized his college plans with a commitment to the University of Massachusetts Boston. A big time scorer this winter at Peabody, Laurent is a versatile back-court piece that has progressively improved over the last 12 months. He has a college ready frame, good length, and sneaky athleticism. More of a scoring guard than a point, he’s still comfortable making decisions with the ball in his hands, particularly in ball screens. He’s a three level scorer that’s terrific behind the arc when his feet are set. Defensively, he can guard either spot in the back-court and is an impressive rebounder for his position. He’ll have a chance to make a quick impact at UMass Boston and profiles as a potential Top 10 scorer in the Little East down the line.
Caleb Crawford
HEIGHT 5'10"
POS PG
CLASS 2024
State: New England
School: Loomis Chaffee
Crawford will head north for the next four years when he attends the University of Maine. A quick guard with great defensive instincts, Crawford is a true two-way player. He fits the mold of a lock-down lead guard with great length, quick hands, and the ability to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. He generates a ton of deflections and steals, that often lead to easy run outs. His quick first step helps him on the offensive end of the floor, where he can get into the paint and make plays for others. He’s capable of sliding off the ball and knocking down threes at a high clip. He’ll head to Maine with a chance to make his mark on the defensive end of the floor, where he has the tools to compete at a high level in the America East.
