Disney bundle subscribers will have plenty to cut their teeth on in August 2024 with the latest arrivals for Disney+ and Hulu. While Disney+ is a little light this month, barring a couple of notable exceptions, both of the streamers are still making headway to keep their audiences entertained. With tons of new and old favorites making their way to the streaming giant, Hulu is set to have a big August this year. So, without further ado, let’s dive into everything coming to Disney and Hulu in August 2024.
The most notable film coming to Hulu in August 2024 is the streaming premiere of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Hulu subscribers who missed the smash hit continuation of the popular Planet of the Apes series or simply those eager to rewatch director Wes Ball’s new adventure will be able to do so starting on August 2, 2024. Bolstered by strong motion capture performances from lead actors Owen Teague and Kevin Durand, the opening chapter to a new trilogy set 300 years after the death of ape revolutionary Caesar (Andy Serkis) is a big pull for the streaming service. To add an additional incentive, the entire Planet of the Apes franchise — yes, all 10 films — will be available this month alongside Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes for the ultimate marathon to go bananas over.
Only Murders in the Building Season 4 sees the return of one of Hulu’s most successful comedy series. The fourth season premieres on the streaming platform on August 27, 2024, reuniting the terrific trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, along with a returning Meryl Streep, as the show’s story pivots from New York to Hollywood. The multiple Emmy-nominated Hulu Original Series is not slowing down anytime soon. New guest stars like Zack Galifianakis, Melissa McCarthy, and Kumail Nanjiani are bound to excite devoted fans while also potentially bringing in new viewers all the same. Either way, Hulu subscribers looking for a dose of comedy and good old murder mystery antics will be fed well this month.
The other hilarious Hulu show returning in August 2024 is Solar Opposites. The cult favorite animated series, which centers on the lovable alien family from Planet Shlorp, returns for its fifth season on August 12, 2024. After successfully recasting the lead character Korvo, previously voiced by controversial series co-creator Justin Roiland, with Dan Stevens in its prior season, Solar Opposites has shown that it can persevere even with a major shake-up. Considering Solar Opposites Season 6 is already in the works, this seems like just the beginning of a new era for this animated hit and its colorful cast of characters. Only time will tell if it reaches the heights of its quasi-sister show, Rick & Morty.
There’s not much in the way of new shows or movies coming to Disney+ in August 2024, but there are a couple of notable Disney+ Original Series to keep an eye on. The first is Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. The second season of Young Jedi Adventures shorts will arrive on August 2, 2024, and families can then expect the full series to return for its second season on August 17, 2024. For those who live and breathe all things K-Pop, more specifically in the BTS ARMY, the Disney+ series Are You Sure?! premieres on August 8, 2024. The Disney+ show follows BTS members Jimin and Jung Kook traveling across the globe in a part travelogue documentary part reality series format. No doubt Are You Sure?! will rack up enough hype and excitement to keep a large number of Disney+ subscribers in August 2024.
As always, the bread and butter of new arrivals on both Hulu and Disney+ are the films being added to their backlog. Hulu is coming with a healthy supply of classics for younger viewers to enjoy. Fans of wanting to check out director Shawn Levy’s prior work will be tickled to see the Night at the Museum trilogy being added. Moreover, to prepare for Tron: Ares, Joseph Kosinski’s beloved legacy sequel, Tron: Legacy, will be available to stream starting at the beginning of the month. Genre festival hit Suitable Flesh will be streaming towards the middle of August 2024 as well, along with the Josh O’Connor-starring La Chimera. More notable additions to Hulu this month include Sydney Sweeney’s Immaculate and Parker Finn’s Smile, which should both be checked off any horror fans’ list.
