I’ll be back in the Dots life again
All the eyes that watched me once will smile and take me in
- A long time ago, in a college football landscape far away, crossing time zones was a thing you did for a bowl game. With conference realignment and reshuffling, Washington plays in New Jersey and Miami heads to Berkeley for conferences clashes. Jon Wilner notes that Michigan’s loss in Seattle is more evidence that crossing the country is easier said than done for college football teams. In the Big 10, teams that cross at least two time zones are 1-8 and the only winner so far is Indiana away to UCLA.
- Andy Yamashita also took a longer look at the Michigan game a day after the victory. Yamashita highlighted the bigger role for Keleki Latu in the victory. After we discussed the struggles in the screen game on last week’s All We Hear Is Purple, it was great to see Rogers and Latu quickly connecting on some effective screens. Yamashita also gave Jedd Fisch credit for sticking with Grady Gross through five missed FGs in a row, though I’m not sure he had much of a choice.
- Not one to slack with only three takeaways, Christian Caple has 24 notes from the day after the big victory. I found it interesting that Caple pointed out how many crucial plays came from players who were part of the National Championship loss last winter. While most of the roster has turned over, TD catchers Denzel Boston and Giles Jackson, as well as key fumble forcer Voi Tunuufi were all part of the Deboer Huskies who made the CFP run, so the win likely felt even sweeter for them.
- The Huskies earned a mention in the national 247 Sports write-up on west coast teams. According to Carter Bahns, the win over Michigan proves that this is more than just a rebuilding year for the Dawgs and they have what it takes to be competitive in the B1G right now.
- On the recruiting side, Fisch and staff put a lot of recruiting eggs in the Michigan basket, and it looks like the bet paid off. Things could have gone very badly against a top-10 team, but with beautiful weather, a raucous Husky Stadium, and an exciting win, the official and unofficial visitors got a great spectacle. One of the top-rated players on campus was LB Talanoa Ili, the #28 prospect in the entire ‘26 class. According to Dawgman, Ili had glowing things to say about his trip to Montlake.
- Husky Volleyball finally suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday. Washington ascended to the national top-25 with 13 straight wins to open the season. The trip to Madison to play #9 Wisconsin proved too difficult, though, as the Badgers won in straight sets.
Both Lamar and the Ravens' OL were nails against big blitzes in the second half with the game on the line. Rosengarten in particular had a couple really impressive plays where he's got a piece of multiple guys, came off at the right time, and made throws possible for Lamar.
