It’s Halloween yet again, and with the chill in the air quite literally brought by the cold weather, people are finding ways to celebrate the spooky season. From binge watching scary movies or series, telling one another ghost stories during a cousins’ sleep-over and, of course, playing horror video games.
Speaking of games, today’s read will cover some of the scary titles you can easily install on your mobile devices. Here is the list and a short discussion of what you can enjoy.
Identity V
Download: Google PlayStore, Apple App Store
Coming in first in our list is a beloved classic in mobile gaming, Identity V. While there are plenty of titles that first started out for the PC before transitioning to mobile, this game developed by Netease became popular within the sphere of phones and tablets.
Now, think of the movie Coraline intertwined with Dead by Daylight, and you get an adrenaline rush of a chase between hunter and players across various maps. This asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror lets players choose from a multitude of survivors with different roles; a medic can help heal teammates and also the self, the lawyer can detect where are Cipher Machines located in the map, while the gravedigger can literally bury himself on the ground to avoid being hit by the hunter, and so on and so forth.
If you’re thinking that this is going to be a rip-off experience from Dead by Daylight having similar gameplay mechanics, Netease actually collaborated with the said game’s team (Behaviour Interactive) to make Identity V possible.
Slendrina: The Cellar
Download: Google PlayStore, Apple App Store
I’m not even kidding when I say Slenderman has family, and that’s where the entire Slendrina series came to be with the latter female villain apparently the daughter of the infamous creepypasta icon. The Cellar is the second game in the franchise developed by DVLoper.
As a survival horror and coming from the Slenderman titles gameplay, the mechanics are simple: collect eight books and escape the cellar. Sounds easy, right? Well, if you’re considering that this will be a kid’s game and there won’t be as much jumpscares in the process. To top that off, it can get pretty claustrophic walking through what seems like an endless maze.
The best advice when playing is to try and avoid staring at Slendrina for too long and to turn in other directions if she is close to a nearby book. The game has become quite popular to the point it has been getting updates with streamers giving the title a boost through their gameplay and commentary.
The Baby in Yellow
Download: Google PlayStore, Apple App Store
It’s amazing how succesful this game turned out to be that it made its developers––Team Terrible––quit their actual jobs to work full-time in further developing the game.
The Baby in Yellow is probably one of those titles you’ve heard or seen on Youtube, and ended up wanting to play it for yourself. In the game, you put yourself in the role of a babysitter who is to look after a baby boy wearing yellow. However, there is something awfully wrong with the baby that makes your simple tasks much more complicated.
This is the kind of horror game that works around surviving nights (night 1, night 2, and so on) while things become increasingly weird. If you dislike horror involving kids (or babies), this might be an interesting title to try and get over the fear. The way the player will notice things that are off, and the anticipation of what an innocent-looking baby can do makes this horror title a unique experience.

Eyes: The Horror Game
Download: Google PlayStore, Apple App Store
If we’re talking about horror games on the mobile platform that has withstood time, Eyes is recommended for both new players and those who miss the nostalgia for mobile horrors developed in the early 2010s.
Created by Paulina and Michal Pabis and released in 2013, the player takes on the role of a thief whose goal is to collect money bags and get out of the mansion once done. The twist of the game comes when the player has to make use of the so-called Eye Runes to predict the ghost’s (Krasue’s) moves and to outrun her.
It’s interesting to know that this isn’t just a collect-and-run objective, but that the game actually has a story involving Krasue’s past and the other villains available in other chapters.
Dead Trigger 1 & 2
Download: Google PlayStore, Apple App Store
Last on this list is a zombie-shooter developed by Madfinger Games, Dead Trigger and its sequel. If you miss playing Left 4 Dead, this is the closest you can revive the memory in the palm of your hand.
The game’s story revolves around the protagonist, Kyle, in a zombie-infected world as he meets up with fellow survivors and discover a government-run bunker which they eventually realize how the plague was a plot by some wealthy men.
As a first-person shooter (FPS), you will feel the thrill of gunning down the horde using a wide variety of weapons in your arsenal. Since this is only available in single-player mode, there is that added rush of having to constantly survive wave of zombies on your own.
Take the thrill anywhere you go
One major advantage of having different games readily available on the mobile platform is its accessibility and the fact you can play them wherever you will go.
With game developers spending their time, effort, and dedication in providing us with unique experiences, we are now getting the opportunity to play titles that are truly made for our mobile devices so that it gives us a great scare in a platform that also continues to improve.
What are you waiting for? Don’t be a scaredy-cat and install these games. Slendrina, Krasue, and the rest are waiting to meet you.
